The Pines is located in Houghton Bay hills and is 15 minutes drive from Wellington city. The venue has a beautiful view of the ocean and the beach is just a short step away. The beach has a combination of sand and rocks, perfect for photography. The halswell lighthouse is only 5 minutes away from the pines and is another great spot for pictures.

The Pines has been operating for over 20 years, but has recently undergone a bit of a make-over. A unique looking chapel for wedding ceremonies has been built onsite, the building is a wooden church shaped structure, but the front side is all clear glass, letting in all the natural light, nice for photos.

The new ceremony building and reception hall are next to each other, so once you arrive you can let the cars disappear if you don’t intend any other location photo shoots. Romantic moment for newlyweds at the pines Flower girl and pageboy arrival at reception

While the grounds are fairly small, there are a number of interesting places for your photos, like the yellow pillars on the ground floor and the lynch gate on the way in from the car park.

The venue can accommodate up to 250-seated guests and about 300 guests, although this can be a little bit of a challenge in the upstairs garden if you want a picture of everyone there. The Pines has some interesting décor, the turret in the corner being one such feature, the glass turret being the other spot for indoor ceremonies.

As your wedding day turns to the reception and speeches part of the evening the panoramic view of the sea provide a lovely backdrop if you are lucky enough to get a colourful sunset.
