A little about Tarueka estate ( formally the loft ) 38 Donald Street, Featherston.
An hour north of Wellington in the Wairarapa is the oldest and largest exisiting barn in New Zealand called The Loft. It’s located on Tarueka Estate that also happens to double as the perfect rustic wedding venue. Set over eight acres, you have the option between two venue spaces: in the barn or outside on the wedding glade lawn in front of a 130-year-old homestead. This gives you the flexibility for any last minute changes.
If you decide on the barn, the ceremony and dinner takes place upstairs in the chapel and banquet area, which can seat 120 comfortably. While the bar and dance floor is located below and it can fit either a DJ, juke box, or live band. The Loft is especially great for winter weddings. It’s a cosy space thanks to the wood-fired heating, old beams, twinkling lights and sparkling mirrors throughout.
One of the three caterers recommended will use the fully equipped kitchen that’s located in the barn. The bar is also fully equipped and a BYO licence is available.
Out-of-town guests can stay the night in the two storey homestead, which has seven double bedrooms and two bathrooms. Guests won’t be bored during their stay as there is extra entertainment provided, such as tennis, cricket, and croquet lawns. A nearby three-bedroom cottage is also available. It is the perfect place for the bride and her bridal party to get ready in. Couples have the opportunity to hold their wedding over a weekend from Friday afternoon to Sunday evening, allowing 22 guests to stay.
