Old St Pauls (34 Mulgrave St, Pipitea, Wellington)
A piece of Wellington history is Old St. Paul’s that’s situated right in the heart of Wellington in the neighbourhood of Thorndon. The gorgeous wooden cathedral is a classic example of Gothic Revival architecture. Though the exterior may be modest, the interior is exceptional. It has native timber columns, embroidered furnishings, and colourful stained glass windows. Needless to say, it’s a popular choice for couples.
Old St. Paul’s welcomes everyone to get married in the church. To hire the venue for a ceremony the cost starts at $1,150 during June through August. While it’s $1,350 for ceremonies in September to May. Included in the price is having the space to yourself for an hour and a half, a wedding co-ordinator, seasonal flowers, choice of pew décor, rehersal, and music choice (organ, piano, or MP3 available). If ninety minutes isn’t enough, add an additional hour for $350 where guests can mingle and enjoy drinks and finger foods.
Something unique about Old St. Pauls is that the church can also be used as a reception space. By moving the pews around, you and your guests can have dinner while admiring the colourful stained glass windows and native timber. Hiring the church for both ceremony and reception costs between $3,200 and $3,900. You’ll have access from 12 p.m. until 12 a.m. Set up and clean up will be included, along with the use of the stage, piano, and staff.
Sarah Searancke is the recommended caterer. She will meet with each of the couples, showcase some food samples, and discuss in detail your wishes to design a menu based on individual requirements. If you would like to use your own caterer, there will be a $150 premium.
